Debit Cards + Prepaid Cards

Kari supports Debit and Prepaid cards on our platform, however there are some notes and some "gotchas" which customers need to be aware of.

Customers should have at least double the amount of the fare on their prepaid or debit card to avoid any issues.

This is due to the pre-authorization process which is common on any service such as a hotel, SkipTheDishes or Amazon.

To give you an example:

When you request a ride, for this example it's a $10.00 ride. The system will pre-authorize the amount for 120% of the fare. In a debit or prepaid card would take the money out of the account immediately. It's set to 120% due to take in consideration any stops or additional time, etc charge that may occur along the way.

You then complete the ride and it ends up being $13.00 (maybe you had to stop somewhere, but it could be the same or less amount as well). The system would then withdrawl the $13.00 as that's the fare, and then the system cancels the $10.00 pre-authorization made when the ride was originally requested.

While the $10.00 goes back to your prepaid/debit card, typically it takes a few days. The difference is that with a regular credit card, the pre-authorization is simply cancelled and no money is actually transferred.
